finished just before work was over...yay

The article laid out the history of writing and language, especially the development of poetry throughout history, extremely well.  The development of early writing and language was used to help aid in the memorization of the forms; rhythmic versus and mnemonic techniques are examples of the aid provided. However, in a Post-Literary era, writing and language must neither function as a collective memory of stored information nor by a singular projected voice, but rather through a medium. A medium is defined as a received intake of language from outside the language and culture itself; the means to transport and convey between ideologies, and use material and technical for the process of art.  Experimental ways of writings makes language and writing interactive, rather than an aid for memory.  The digital age has brought new technologies for ways to memorize or capture literature and language.  Today the need to use transcriptive writing as a tool to reproduce literary works and to store information is falling due to the textualization of writing were the memory is put into the text or the image.  There are more possibilities to transform the way of writing and expressionism in unheard of ways, rather than limit our potential to the past.  However, even the potential creates limitations to how we use the new forms of text; like the printing press limited errors in grammar and spelling Hypertext could limit the ability to see the text properly without certain tools of technology.
In my own work, I would like to use other forms of media that will give a better effect to my writing. I don’t think my writing will try to challenge any structure, but the image juxtaposing will reinforce the words meanings.  I’ll have to create whatever feels right at the time…maybe something awesome and new will be created, maybe not.

Untitiled-Alan Woods its wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy past bed time. forgive me if this is a drag to read..

united/untied  lucid/ludic

The other intentionally switches letters in the mirror image of the words; I think he does this so the reader will assume the words are mirror images of each other, but after a second closer glance I noticed that the words were different. this changed my perception of the meaning. the first set of words are contrasting each other; the second set of words (lucid and ludic) didn't seem to match up at first; "a clear and obvious understanding" compared to "aimless playfulness". However, a ludic fallacy, a term coined by Nassim Nicholas Taleb, means to have a narrow chance of possessing all knowledge and information to events that have not yet occurred. The possibility of the smallest error or variation in the processes could alter the out come of the event, greatly. Unless the out come is predetermined by an outside factor (for example loaded dice or two headed coin) only then the ability to successfully know the out come would be  probable. As I stated before at first glace I believed the words to be only mirror reflections of each other, but they're not. A person can believe that they are united and have a clear understanding of the world, but at a closer look any one can realize that the world can come undone and the chances of something happening that would be considered obvious or rational could suddenly change instantly. Woods demonstrates this instantaneous change by the letter switching. The definition of the words completely change, when I was under the assumption that the words HAD to be mirror images based on the visual layout of the words.
I think Woods chose to represent this play on words because most people would be under the assumption that the words were in fact mirroring each other. The slight change in the words gives use the meaning the reader needs to understand what the author was trying to present: everything is not as it appears or is likely to be what we assume; and an examination must be preformed because the slightest difference, which could be ignored or looked over, could impact an event or person greatly. By using a non-traditional method of writing, Woods, was able to show the ludic fallacy instead of telling us about it.
I am not sure what about this piece I would like to hold on to when working on my own writing. Preferably, I like to be straight forward with my words and meanings. Maybe I'll have a quirky way to express my thoughts, but nothing so subtle...especially around two in the morning. I'll hopefully be working with more a visual representation that will accompany my written works. I'd rather have little interpretation done on my works. I think by clearly showing my audience the image and written word I may be able to avoid senseless "deep" interpretation. I don't want people to try to put meaning to my work, I would rather have my work give or show the message up front because sometimes an audience may take my work in a wild direction (which is fine, but not my intention).

a, ahhhhhh, eh.

The letter begins to hop and trips, slides down-screen, and flips into a lower case 'e' then an 'h' appears. I choose to develop my flash animation in this manner because the letter is capable of making multiple sounds. a, ah, and eh are just three. the 'a' takes short hops representing the short sound; the letter falls representing "ah" to form the long open 'a' sound; then the "eh" appears to to represent the 'a' sound intending to be repeated.

The cursive 'L' animation was interesting because it's shape does resemble a butterfly, as the artist presented in her letter animation. Other than the resemblance in shape, I wonder what made the decision to create piece of work in this way. Another work I found interesting was the ''rolling 'o''' basically because of the entertainment factor it provided (it was comical).

This one is to you, dear Canada. Eh!

All the little a's will trip over this

History of the Letter 'a'!

The letter 'A'  appeared first in the Phoenician letters as adelp. Which represented a an ox's head. The symbol was then adopted by the Greeks; who altered the letter in the upright position and name (Alpha). The letter is a vowel that depending on the dialect or language out have a short or long sound. This depends on the location the sound is made within the mouth (long sounds are made from deeper in the mouth and short sounds are more towards the front. The letter structure has many variations the general shape is recognizable in both the upper and lower case. There are more variations in the lower case form; the shape can vary from open to closed tops or arcing lines over the base of the letter. The letter has a lack of shape variation because during the creation of letter symbols and literature the people who could write would periodically commune due to their religious beliefs.

The symbol 'a' in its upper case form can represent notes in the musical scale or quality of products. There are also 12 different vowel sounds for the letter 'a' according to the New English Dictionary. The a-sound also helped create other vowel sounds in several dialects.

Me can only eat things that start with the letter 'a'

I chose the letter 'a' in the lower case form because in the upper case form I do not see them often on my grade reports. The letter actually has no special meaning to me directly; it just happens to be an awesome letter used by street artist that I never tempted to use ( I am a big (little) 'e' writer). I may also have been craving an apple at the time I made my decision, but that has little relevance. My vision of the letter 'a' can be formatted in numerous ways, but the simple shapes that make up the letter are a semi or full circle with a hooked (or curved) line  attached to and hanging over the right side of the circle; to demonstrate 'a'. The first thing comes to mind when looking at this letter is matchbox car tracks. So that in mind I think of children playing with toy cars. The children would be having fun and there would be talk of loop-de-loops; speed and destruction; high energy levels and a sense of thrill. The letter is bold, unlike the uppercase version which is 'acutie'. And that's a bad joke.
I don't think the letter can move it self, but it is capable of moving objects. Currently, I find it difficult to show how to create a moving letter that can not function successfully unless it hops. The letter is also not symmetrical and that can cause balance issues; so the letter basically becomes an object that can clumsily hop along.

I have some ideas, but I have to check out this software in order to structure my project and ideas any further.

Introduction for the Folks in English 328

I began experimenting with lyrics and poetry in seventh grade. Most of the themes boiled down to relationships; love; hate; death; and religious mockery--you know the typical "emo" style of self expressive. My writing was  handed into the school guidance more than once due to the number of teachers who were concerned with my well-being. However, I was a pretty happy kid; normal, independent, and self-motivated. Growing up, I felt that writing about these topics, or using these themes (such as love, hate, and death) provided a large quantity of material to discuss through personal expression. I can admit that I had my fair share of broken hearts and secret crashes to motivate the feeling through those words, but I applied most of my poems to multiple girls. I was a cheap romantic.
Recently, I have switched to comedic writing about love, hate, religion, personal characteristics, history, pop culture, and current issues; basically anything. I would like to consider my personality as an "out side of the box" kind of creative thinker, but my ability to completely follow through with any project seems difficult these days. So sometimes I find myself nostalgically flowing my pen across a scarp of paper about some love-sick moment about a girl, beautiful enough to die for (a moment on the inside). In general and in accordance with this course, I hope to develop some cool animated things or at least have the opportunity to appreciate the works of art from other students.

until next class, y'all keep well.
